Getting your WDL number and Permit

You will need to have access to your License Express account for getting your permit, testing and licensing.

Your WDL number is your Washington Driver License number. 

This number is your State ID, Permit and eventually your driver license number.   

Your WDL number is what we use to enter your waiver so that you can get your driving permit.  If you provided your WDL number at the time of registration then we will enter the waiver into your License Express account*.   There is no paper documentation.   If you did not provide or provided an incorrect number at the time of registration we will note that in your registration packet that was emailed to you after registration.   

Once you have your WDL number please email it to info@nelsondrivingschool.com so that we can enter your permit waiver.  We recommend copy and pasting to avoid typo's.

*Students can login to their License Express accounts no more than 10 days prior to the class they are enrolled in to get their non-photo permit.  The printed copy is a valid permit until the plastic one arrives in the mail.

Once your waiver has been entered by NDS then you will be able to get your permit no more than 10 days before the class you are enrolled in starts.

Once you are within the 10 days before your start of class you will need to login to your License Express Account and get your permit.  Below are instructions on how to print your permit once you have purchased it.  You can drive with your paper permit until the plastic one comes in the mail.   There is an expiration date on your paper permit.

There is no guarantee that you will be able to get your permit online.   

The permit you get online is a non-photo permit.   By DOL allowing a non-photo permit makes it so that you do not need to go to the DOL to get your permit.   Once you have completed driver education and state testing you will need to make an appointment with the DOL to get your photo license.

You may have to make an appointment with the DOL to get your permit.  

NDS does not issue permits.   

We will not login to your License Express account to help you get your permit.  

We are happy to print your permit from an emailed PDF that you email to us.

We know contacting DOL for assistance is not the best option in getting help with your permit but we are limited on how we can and are able to assist students.
